I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If water is still leaking, turn the water off at the nearest location or at the mains tap outside. If you cannot locate the main valve or a tap to the fixture, then turn on all the cold faucets inside and out to depressurise the system and minimise the leak.
